treble hooks

This weekend fishing in pool 4 I had a nice walleye on that managed to straighten 2 of the hooks on the front treble. This was on a #5 rapala. Any one else have this trouble with rapala’s trebles?

Yup, Ive had fish straigthen, and even break the hooks off of new jointed shad raps. The broken hooks came from big sheephead caught trolling up stream, but I was very surprised they broke that easy. I’m replacing my hooks this winter!

I have had a ton of trouble with the Rapalas treble hooks so I do not put a crankbait on my rod with out changing the hooks. I replace all of mine with Red VMC trebles.

how many fish have been caught on that bait or how long have you had it? i have noticed with my shad raps once you catch some fish on them they tend to get weak. The sheepies are the worst for doing it. also if you troll upstream and catch most of your fish that way it puts a lot of presure on them hooks and after a while they will bend or break. if you do bend a hook replace it. If you bend it back it will most likely break on the next fish.

I was pretty disappointed with that lure. It was only the second fish caught on it and it was new that day. I now have gone and replaced all my trebles on my cranks.

I replace all my hooks with mustad round bend hooks…my hooking percentage and dramatically increased since I have the replacement hooks on…especially when I’m handlining

And my son says I have a big mouth! Yep, they sure are great hooks. Got em at Hooked On Fishing.
