Thinking of hitting Pepin on Sat, Sept 11. Haven’t been there since June/July. Is the trolling bite on?

I was out on Pepin last Friday. There were a lot of boats on the water trolling, but I only saw one boat the whole day catch a decent size walleye in front of Hanson’s habor on the flats just north of the drop off that runs into Hanson’s habor in about 8ft of water. Here is my latest report when I was out last Friday:

Dan the man and Mr. Slayer went on Lake Pepin today to check out the local walleye bite. From all of the latest reports it sounds like it has been the dead sea lately . Well my friends, we proved everyone wrong. Right off the bat I caught a dandy 19 incher on a night crawler with a chartreuse colored hook about three foot off of the bottom in about 7 feet of water. Five minutes later his bigger brother (21 incher) decided to bite on my other pole rigged with a chartreuse/green colored Phelps floater, but with a minnow, again about three foot off the bottom. After the two nice walleyes we found ourselves in schools of nice sunfish and also some very nice perch. Unfortunately, we caught a few sheepies , but only about five all together. We tried a few different hot spots, but we just caught perch, sunnies, and a few sheepies. Towards 2 pm we went back to where we were at the beginning of the day. Wouldn’t you know it; I caught two more nice sized brothers of the first two walleyes but this time in 14.5 ft of water, both with a minnow. And man what a gorgeous day to be on the water. Thanks Dan, when are we going again ? We didn’t catch any saugers at all today. The water was very clear today and also shallow . Keep those motors up until you get in deeper water!!! I caught all of the Walleyes on the first point north of Hackosla (Minnesota side) on the near the flats. There are three deep holes near this point and the eyes were located just before the drops into the holes. If you move from north to south the depth is about 15ft then it comes up to about 7ft then back down to about 18ft then back up to about 8ft then it drops off to 30ft for good. I caught the eyes just before these drops. I have always caught fish between Diggers point and Long Point whenever the wind is out of the South SW or SE. Good luck as I have to go to school (college) that day . Give us a report when you get back, will ya!

I am not getting big numbers in the areas I am concentrating but am seeing quality fish Cranks and bait have both put good fish in the boat for me. I will have a detailed report up early next week.

Why you holding out on the reports?? You’ll just throw those 23″ fish out at the dock anyway.
