Two part question . I have read a couple of posts stating they were using three – way rigs. What size weight do you use? How fast do you move?

The two questions are really too closely related to seperate. Speed seems to be as much personal preference as anything. Weight should be enough to keep it ticking the bottom at that speed. Leader length, etc – all personal preference.

I doubt there’s any scientific formula, it just depends on what the fish want. Just don’t be stubborn and stick with something that’s not working.

As Gianni mentioned, you can’t really seperate speed from weight. Go faster, you’ll need more weight. Slower, you can get by with less. Also the baits pulled behind the 3-way make a big difference too. Stickbaits need a heck of a lot more weight than a plain aberdeen hook and crawler.

This past week I was using 4 – 6 ounce weights to run stickbaits, mostly #11 floating raps, in 14′ – 18′ feet of water. When I would move shallow, I would move to 4 ounce weights to adjust for the drease in depth.

Hope that helps some. any more questions, just holler.

Where do you buy a 4 – 6 oz weight ? Is a 45 degree angle important? If two people are in the boat and we run 4 lines do you run equal weight on them all?

Most all of the bait shops along the river will carry the larger sinkers.

I don’t like to exceed a 45′ angle with my lines.

I run an extra ounce of lead on my front set of rods, which happen to be longer and provide some extra spacing from the back set of rods.

    Works slick.

I’m not sure. He should if he doesn’t. PM him…. I’m quite surprised that I’ve not looked.

    Sorry.

    James,

I read your report for 4/14/02 and you have been getting the eye’s and sauger on three way rigs. I was just wondering: How far down are you running your dropper and how much line have you been running out to your Rapala? Also are you just creeping up current or are you going pretty fast.—/Just curious/
