Hey. Anybody have any reports from the weekend? Presentations, locations , depths? Thanks
Tony
Here is my prevoius post from 8/13/2004. I fished Lake Pepin with a friend this morning and we caught three nice sized white bass , two sheepies , and four nice sized saugers . We caught the saugers in 12.5 foot of water next to the pier. Not very much action, but it sure was nice to get out in the water and the weather was absolutely wonderful .
Here is my other previous post from 8/10/2004.
A friend and I drove down to Hacsola and saw how rough it was. Three to four foot waves easily . We decided to drive down to Roshan to check it out. Four to five foot waves, not much better . Both locations scared the living daylights out of us. We decided to pay a visit to the Alma Dam instead. We started by anchoring in about 13 feet of water next to the gate where the barges pass through. We only caught one sheepie. Both of us agreed on that we should drift instead of staying stationary. Our luck began to change. Every drift we caught a decent sized sauger .
After about three hours we decided to head to the Lake City pier, but not before stopping at Subway for a footlong sub. Man that was good. We both cracked open a MGD and the saugers started to hit like mad . Many times we both had saugers on at the same time. Wow, what a blast. Towards sunset (still by the pier) we saw several northerns on the top of the water, swirling around on top of the water. Then something happened which neither of us has ever seen before . We saw bluegills jump out of thirty foot deep water. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. We saw three nice northerns chasing these Bluegills that were jumping out of the water. One of the biggest northerns was about three feet long, what a beauty. My friend decided to cast with a crankbait from all of the action we saw. Needless to say he never caught the northerns , but it was worth the try. Seagulls were diving into the water catching these Bluegills which were being chased by these NICE sized northerns. Right at sunset I had one hell of a hit on my pole. It shocked me and when I lifted the pole all I could feel was a bunch of weight then a big whack. As soon as I felt this dead weight, I set the hook immediately and then my line went limp . There were some serious teeth marks in my line. I bet that nice northern was on my line, but I will never know. There were a bunch of people on the rocky point next to the pier catching what I was assuming were either Perch or Bluegills. Every cast they caught a fish. It was unbelievable . Wow, what a fun day. We were on the water from 11am to 9:30pm. Thanks for the fun Roy . We will go again next Wednesday bud.
These were from last week, but a lot can change in a short period of time.
I fished lower pool 4 Sunday in the back waters mostly. Not much going on. I caught a couple of nice northerns 36″ and 32″ and worked hard for some crappies. The bass just didn’t want to bite. I went out Saturday afternoon and fished some wingdams and closing dams. Not much boat traffic for a Saturday. Caught some nice walleyes. I was lucky enough to have a guy fish near me and was wondering what I was doing in an open area. I told him I was fishing a closing dam. I told him how to find them, told him about the hot spot maps, and this website…did everything I could to help him because he wasn’t from the area. He then catches a 28″ walleye. It was a hawg. He said, “This will be a good meal!” I asked if he was going to put it back and he laughed at me. He said it was supper. He then followed me everywhere. I tell ya people love to take advantage of ya. I tried to explain to him he should release it and it didn’t seem to work. He then thought he could follow me to my spots. I finally went to a place where I couldn’t find any fish and sat there with a bobber and pretended to fish til he left.
the guy who kept that nice fish,,,,flat bottom-yamaha on it-just wondering..thx
