” This report comes from Mark Clements ”

Fishing has been spotty the last couple of days, but some very nice size walleye have been caught. Today the bait was a minnow, just a plain minnow on a floating jig or on a bare hook. Everyone who used one caught something and a couple of guys had some dandy walleye in the 3 to 4 pound range. Otherwise, in the morning some very nice walleye were caught in the shallow water on jigs, Blue’s, Purple’s and Chartreuse seem to work best. Over the weekend it was a little slow with a lot of people catching a few, but nobody filling out a limit. Perch were starting to move in a little with some catching up to a dozen or so. Mainly on minnows and a few on worms. The walleye fishing should

continue to improve with the water temp heading back up, it is in the 38 area right now. Needs to get a few degrees warmer yet. Sauger starting to move in as well. Should be pretty good fishing the next couple of weeks, if the weather cooperates.

Mississippi River – Genoa WI – Clements Fishing Barge

” Update From Mark Clements ”

Fishing is beginning to pick up a little more each day. With the warmer weather we are starting to catch quite a few sauger, as they move in. The big female walleye are showing up in the afternoons and several were thrown back in the 4 to 6 pound range and a couple in the 8 pound size. With the warmer water, look to see some better action as the week progresses. Mainly on jigs, but they are doing pretty well on just a plain minnow too, and today several people had a 6 to a dozen perch on their stringers. They were fishing the inside with just a minnow on a river rig.

    Hi Bill,

Do you think the weekend of 4/19-4/21 will be too late for fishing at the barge?

How close do you feel the walleye are to spawning, and how long does it usually take before they head back down river?

    Thanks!

    Paul
