Still catching some decent sauger and some nice walleyes on the Sip. I have been working inside corners with the H20 Jig and B_fish_N Tackle’s Electric Blue Ringworm with the Pearl Tail…with results like this 19+” sauger my wife caught.

And the Small Mouths wouldn’t stay off my H20 jig tipped with a leach…this one taped out at just a smidge over 18″..We had several in the 17-18inch mark…lots of fun for sure…
July 28, 2004 at 8:12 pm #314463nice job Dave my wife and I are heading to the river this weekend hope to get a few smallies my self
July 28, 2004 at 8:30 pm #314467Looks like bait fish. I’ve been getting lots of saugers too. Only I am using B Fish N purple ringies.
July 29, 2004 at 1:36 pm #314576Before anybody goes ballistic about the rest of this post…most of you know that I am a pretty blunt and honest guy but until I die or can no longer fish I will be looking for learning experiences/opportunities like this one.
Other than the obvious advertising value to the site.. (ringworms seem to be in the posts a lot again), I would really enjoy some time in the boat with someone who actually catches fish with them. I don’t seem to see any difference in results with them than I do with a fluttertail or any other twister tail…which really fall off for me in the summertime. I’ve tried them again and again since I have a very definite preference for plastics whenever I can make them work.
So if anybody out there wants to show me how to make these effective, or I should say more effective than just a regular fluttertail(twistertail), for summer walleye I am ready to go right now. I find myself confined by the fish’s apparent preference for live bait or cranks and really want to add ringworms ,if they are more effective, to my program. We would have to fish either pools 8 or 9 since that is where I would be using them. PM me or e-mail me. I would be more than happy to return the favor on any technique I might use or mention that you might want to see in action.
I have been amazed at the value of K-grubs for bigger bass in the late summer and fall and it would be great if I could get the benefits of ringworms that so many of you obviously do.

What I have been doing is pretty simple. I can’t say they are more effective than other plastics with one exception. I troll until I find fish and then I hit the area with ringworms. The one way I find they are better is when vertically jigged, I try to pause a few inches off the bottom and they just hammer them. I always use a trailer hook and get most of my fish on the stinger. I also notice that I seem to get bigger fish on ringworms but who knows I really don’t use much else anymore.
July 29, 2004 at 5:49 pm #314652Hey LE !!
Looks like you and I will have to “hook” up
I don’t claim that the RW’s are far superior over every other bait on the market but when they are on…..They are on Fire !!!
July 29, 2004 at 5:52 pm #314654So you are basically twitching them just off the bottom? I had always heard and read that they were basically cast into current and allowed to roll or skip down the river, so maybe that’s why they aren’t working for me? I still want some seat time with one of you guys that use them. Please.
July 29, 2004 at 7:20 pm #314685Lawrence,
I would say Dave is a vastly superior walleye fisherman than I am but if you want to go fishing, I am game. You can fish ring worms with a really light jig and float them with the current, but I usually use them vertically like you would a jig and minnow.
July 31, 2004 at 7:22 pm #314892Maybe the whole ringworm thing boils down to faith in the bait. I believe in ’em and fish ’em accordingly…but I’ve had the same results with a Berkley power worm in the same bait profile and can hardly wait to test prototypes of the new Lindy Thumpin’ worm we plan on marketing in ’05–a half inch shorter than the standard ringworm, softer plastic, slightly bigger rings…
Dave, that is a whopping big sauger Deb caught! didja get that foto of the 27 inch walleye my nephew caught on the upper end of 9 on Monday. His first walleye ever, released ! No ringworm here…we were trolling Timber Tiger DC-8 cranks in bluegill above a wingdam.
Soon as Takasaki sends me some of those Thumpin’ worms we’ve gotta go check ’em out…ready for another fishing lesson ! Word on the River says Hutch has even been watching you and taking notes!August 3, 2004 at 4:55 am #315160
