Decided to play hookie from work on Friday.. and I picked the right day! The water had just began to drop for a day or two prior to our visit and it was a gorgeous out there. We missed the high winds on Thursday and the rain on Saturday.
We started the morning out of Evert’s about 6:30. The water was glass and we were the first to arrive. After picking up some bait and a quick report from Kari we were on the water. Throughout the day I checked many spots and we dragged jigs as well as long lined cranks. For my boat the cranks out produced the live bait. We focused on trolling the back channel in the morning and picked up a few, then moved out to the main channel. We found areas where there was a flat off the main channel that allowed us to pull cranks right off the edge of the willows/timber where the eyes were waiting. Focusing on depths anywhere from 5-10 ft and trolling upstream anywhere from 1.2-1.5mph we boated enough eyes to keep us busy as well as a handful of sheep head. In one area we were able to hook up with a triple on the sheepies. I had two friends that do not get out much on the river and they had a riot with them! All and all a great day on the water!
