We had a good day on the water. A number of ‘eyes pulling cranks above the confluence. Although the river was pretty cloudy below the MN river we decided to buzz down south of St. Paul to avoid the tight quarters. Our trip was rewarded with a 28.5″ ‘eye off a wingdam. The bad news that we all thought the other guy had a camera. This was the last time I will be without a camera!!
How did everyone else fair?July 26, 2004 at 5:50 pm #314116Was out on upper pool 4 sunday with BigB and his lady friend (wife) Linda. Numbers were ok. We ended the day about 3:00 with 16 legals biggest only going just short of 23″ . Couldn’t get the big bite that we were after but heard of a few good fish being caught. All our fish were taken dragging blue or orange jigs, crawelrs and leeches both produced some fish in the 21″ class for us.
Talked to Bill Cadwell and he had a good one pushing 27″. Nice fish Bill!
nubbinbuckPosts: 922July 26, 2004 at 5:51 pm #314117I fished the north end of the lake Sunday. 5 hrs, to be exact, and 2 dinks!! Left the lake and attempted to fish the river. What a mistake. The wakes created havoc trying to troll. The 2 dinks were caught north of Maiden Rock. Ton of boats north of Bay city flats trolling. Only saw 1 fish caught.
July 26, 2004 at 6:04 pm #314121Four of us caught about 100 to 150 walleyes Fri-Sat and Sun a.m. on pool 14 pulling cranks on musselbeds and wingys. Of the above fish, about 30 were 20″ to 27″. We caught very few short fish. Only caught a few sheepies and a few kitty fish. No northerns and no bass.
The fish were caught in 5′ to 14′ of water long lining shadraps, wally divers, frenzies, bombers, and rebels. Color didn’t really matter, although firetiger was the favorite, but body shape seemed to matter the most. The longer, more slender lures seemed to work best.
I took pictures but have to download and will then post. It was a great weekend to be on the water in 14, very few pleasure craft andd nice ‘cool’ weather.
If anyone wants more info as to where and how, drop me a pm or respond to this post.
I also want to thank rooster again for all the info he provided to me in a pm. He was right on track.
I hadn’t been to pool 14 in over a year, i grew up in Clinton, and he told me the ‘hotspots’ as of late.July 27, 2004 at 12:15 am #314178Fished pool 10 fri-sun Wow.Caught lots of fish 17 to 19 in eyes were the majority a 24in eye and 20 in sauger were my best.Trolling berkley frenzys pro series gold in various current breaks worked the most consistent.I might add the river was dropping daily so you had to move daily to find fish but it was not hard to find active fish We were there to practice for Sundays tourny and my partner was practicing bait and plastics with good succes as well I might add the Berkley bungee leeches were the most consitent producer
July 27, 2004 at 1:41 pm #314254Was on the upper end of Pepin Saturday all day. Ended up with 5 legals, 1-17″, 3-19″, and 1-20″ long with the smattering of shorties and junk fish. Cranks in 8.5-12′ of water. And, it seemed we could not find any fish in one spot….one here, one there. Passes thru a spot where we had caught a legal would not give up another one. Caught fish on lead, straight lines, and boards. Also pulled bait for a while with nothing to show for it.
Looking forward to the GTG this weekend! Fishing with Waterfowler and Gator Hunter…..could be tooooo much fun. See you there!
July 28, 2004 at 3:06 am #314353Watch out for Gator, He’s already been talking smack about you guy’s! Just throw him out of the boat!!!!!
pittmdPosts: 181July 28, 2004 at 4:42 pm #314226I took my two kids out on Sunday and we fished the lower end of peppin. Nada on the eyes but we caught several cats/carp/sheep and one 21″ smallie. Nice day to be on the water but the pleasure boaters beat the heck out of us all day.
July 28, 2004 at 5:25 pm #314436I was on Pepin Monday and Tuesday looking for northerns. We found areas holding fish but the fish were not aggressively feeding. We had many short strikes, follows, etc. Biggest in the boat was 33″, had one close to the boat which was much larger, still a fun time.
