Just returned from our annual spring trip to Lake Pepin. The fishing was tough, but did manage to put a few fish in the boat. With the unusually cold and high water the last couple of years has really made it a challenge to say the least.

We started off fishing the river and worked our way down into the lake. We caught more walleye than sauger, but several were just short of 15 inches.
We pitched jigs, cast crankbaits, pulled 3 ways with live bait, Lindy rigs, trolled leadcore and long lines. Most of our fish came trolling both long lines and leadcore.

Water temperatures were anywhere from 53 to 57 degrees. Depths were anywhere from 10-22 fow. In areas there was a lot of debris in the water which led to constantly cleaning lures. Once you find fish you have to stay on them to get bit. I think it will just get better once the water temperatures start to rise and the water falls out of the trees.

Most of the launches had high water, but we had no problem putting in anywhere on the upper end of the lake. Its always a good to spend some quality time with old friends, and some new ones. Good fishing and tight lines. Hope to get back up there soon.
