I have recently moved to the Eau Claire area and am wondering what lakes around here are the best lakes for walleye, bass, and panfish. I moved here from Lake Pepin and have not really fished inland lakes at all. I am very used to fishing the “Big Slough” and not real knowledgable about lake fishing or what lakes are good or even where to begin when I get there. Is there anybody out there who has fished lakes like Altoona, Wissota, Popple, Pike, Eau Claire, or Half Moon that would be willing to lend a fellow fisherman a hand? If so, could you please respond to my post? My wife and son are very excited to fish this year. I would like to make it a memorable one. Thanks so much for your time.

Welcome to the area mustbe. I have fished Wissota, it does have some decent walleye action at times, but a goofy slot limit. Good smallies in there also. Have not fished the other ones you mentioned. I spend a lot of time on Menomin & Tainter Lakes near Menomonie. They are probably my favorites in the area. If I can be of any help to you and your family at putting some walleyes in your boat on any of those lakes, let me know.

Wissota does have a weird slot size. Do you live near Menomin, or Tainter. I’m south of Menomonie. Hey Mustbefish check out my reply to you on the bass forum. Steve

Yea LM, I do live near Tainter & Menomin. I fish those lakes a couple times a week during the summer. Small world, huh?!?!

Thanks all for your help and info. I have seen that slot limit on Wissota too. Coming from Lake Pepin, its a little hard to swallow. Anyway good luck to all this spring and hope to see some of you on the water.

I live in Altoona, and fish Lake Altoona a lot because it is so close to me.It is a pretty good lake, but it also gets too much recreational use. However,I have sat in the middle of a sunny day and picked up a bunch a dinner ‘Eyes. Also has great perch available.I have recently been learning Eau Claire Lake,it is very similar to Altoon w/o as much recreational use.It is north of Augusta on Hwy 27.Only 25 minutes from Eau Claire.Wissota can be very productive as well, and the slot size is no big deal. There are tons of eaters in that lake, and I have yet to be dissapointed for catching nothing but slot ‘Eyes.Anytime you want some info,or even to fish a bit, just e-mail me,or PM me here.
