Hopefully everyone will post there success results from this weekend.I was able to get out Saturday with mom and dad.Went to pool 5.We think “someone” at Cenex may have (by accident i’m sure) accidently bumped the switch to “not biting”.But,it is possible we werent holding our mouth right either.LOL.We ran into a bit of tough fishing, but we also found out the trolling motor batteries were on there last leg.So boat control was more difficult than it needed to be.And,a counsel boat is,in my opinion,a bad thing to river fish with w/o a good kicker. We did see some nice 2-4 pound ‘eyes boated, but well scattered out.I heard some guys from EFN were down there, and had all the piggies tied to stumps so they could have all the fun.Hehehe.

P.S. There is a very nice 2000 Pro V for sale…i’m gonna try to post it in the for sale section if I can figure out how.Otherwise send me a PM if interested.

Well, I finally got a chance to fish alittle bit this weekend. Friday I froze my butt, was greeted by rising water and increased flows, but the water was still 36………skunked.

Sat I fished from 5:30 til mother nature whipped up the wind machine. When the whitecaps started I headed back to the trailer to do some deer hunting projects.

20’s at night is not going to improve the fishing.

Ran in to lots of guys pre-fishing for the WAT, everybody was looking, but not too many were catching. One area of active fish up near the Genoa dam, but that’s all that I heard.

Warm weather and rain this week. Lows in the mid 40’s at night will give the fish a kick in the tail. We need warmer water.

I should mention that I fished Pool 9 the whole time.

    Better days are coming.

Can’t wait to see what wins the tourney. The wind blew 20-30 all night and was still howling this morning when I left.

skunked Saturday at Pool 5. Much like Beaver’s post. Howling wind and tight lipped fish. talked to a guy at the ramp and he said they only got 2 small walleyes and that was before 9:00 AM. we fished from noon til about 5:30.

Skunkola on pool 8. I only fished for a couple hours late Saturday and for 2 or 3 hours in the afternoon on Sunday. I threw plastic shallow, pulled rigs, jigged, but no go. Talked to several anglers at the ramp with none having any success. Most of my time was spent around Dresbach and by the NSP plant.

Fished pool 4 on Saturday. Between the wind and cold we caught and released 6 fish, 4 small sauger, 1 small eye, and one 18 inch sauger. Pretty slow, the water temp was 38 degrees, and the air temp was 900 degrees below zero wind chill, felt like it anyway. We jigged, threw plastics, 3 way’d, pulled cranks…..nothing really worked well. Live bait took the small fish, and 3 ways w/Phelps floater took the larger fish.

I was on Pool 2 Friday. Tough day…water was upper 30’s, 38.8 to be exact, fast current and muddy water below the confluence. Fished the Confluence for a while marked a few fish but did not get a bite. The few other boats there also looked like things were slowed. Headed up to the dam and had some company there as well. Saw a few boats bring a few aboard but nothing steady. Most fish were caught in the eddy in front of the locks. It looked as though jigging was the preferred method. I had a couple bites but couldn’t hook up. Hopefullu with some warmer weather and/or rain the water temps will come up and turn the bite on.

I went out at about 2pm Sunday to Lynxville and came up MT.

I pulled three/way with stick baits for the majority of the time from 10′ to 25′ . I did have some bumps on this but nothing to aggressive at all{this my have been the operators fault…me!!} Threw plastics in the shallows for the last hour till 8pm. I did talk to a guy who was pulling a 3-way with a pink floater and a minnow. He was catching eater sized fish in 20′-25′ of water but no BIG fish.He saw about a five pounder or so caught and released below the float. Well beter weather to come should turn these gals on to dance….

We gave it a shot on Friday for a while – fishing was secondary because I was trying out a new(er) boat. Got a couple decent saugers slipping right down the center from the dam back to the y. More active fish when we got near the clam beds (thanks Rivereyes). Nothing spectacular though. 1 small sturgeon. My partner had something decent on up by the lock and lost that after about 20-30 seconds. Was pretty darn busy for a Friday. Makes you wonder if we’ve all got cushy jobs or what.?.?.?

Caught 6 nice saugers on Saturday AM in Pool 4. Mixed in were a few smaller saugers and a white bass. All fish came on plastics with no bait. The last couple times out I have tried fishing 2 rods, one with a jig / part of a power bait twister / minnow, and one with a power tube or ringworm. The best results have been on the power tube.

Fished Dubuque later Saturday afternoon. Caught only one 6-7 inch walleye in 3 hours. Talked to a Wisc DNR officer. Very nice fellow. There were quite a few boats by the tailwaters. I saw 3 other fish caught. The warden on saw 2 nice saugers in livewells all day. It’s gotta get better soon (I hope).

I did fish the WAT this weekend and felt fortunate enough that we did get on the board.1st place Total weight was just over 25lbs and on sunday 18 boats came in fishless.Between the wind rain and water level it was not a good weekend to be out there. At least one of the locals placed in the money.Big fish was under 6lbs.All of this was hard to beleive when there was over 43 boats in the tourny but I guess thats why thet call it fishin and not catchin.Over all the tourny went off well.WAT does run a well organized event. Thanks to Bob and Harry.

We fished the WWA no luck for us we had about a 2 pound average both days. 9.21 9.81 we just could not get a big one. But we had a blast out there, and congrads to those of you that found them.

We were pulling 3-way both days by the dam with both plugs and live bait.

It was tough day on Saturday if you were on a section of river that was catching the wind. And it didn’t get any better as the day and night wore on. We took the new father (Flick) with us on pool five. Heard of one boat doing very well (he had his EFN hat on, must have brought him good luck). We were up and down the river. We had water temps at 39,40, and 41. We took two fish by the dam and one off a wing dam. One 16-17 inch sauger (jig/minnow) and one 19 inch walleye (Sonar). It looked like they were doing something on the float, but it was dark enough not to be able to tell what was being caught. We fished 4 p.m. ’til 8:30 pm. We were going to fish until 9 but the wind and a big twisted rats nest told me that we did not need to find out what the last half hour might be like.

Big congrats to Fire flick on the boat ride home. 2/3’s down the river we saw lightning, not close but the wind by then was just a howling. While his tip was worth the experience trying some new techniques, his experience bringing us back to the boat landing safely earned him the bulk of it. It was nasty!!!

I did stop by the dam at Trempeleau and it was packed on Saturday. Talked to a couple of guys coming off Sunday and they said every body was moving around, an indication that people were searching. Maybe dozen trucks in the the lot. I will be down to talk turkey for the opener on Wednesday and hope to fish Wed., Thurs. and Fri. Will report each day.

Bite was slow Saturday at Redwing. My 2nd visit to the area. What a great day to look at different types of boats and different methods of fishing! The wind was indeed blowing hard but we stayed right out in it till around 3:30. Headed back in to Evert’s with 9 nice sauger and one walleye. The average length was 20″. Tried several different ringworms and twistertails, (always switching and experimenting…drives my partner nuts), when he threw me a chartruse twistertail,(type with the tail split into 4 sections), and with a laugh said, “you’ve tried everything else in your box, try this”, so I did. That and a 1/2oz chartruse jig. That combination did the trick and before you know it all three of us in the boat were using the same combination. First time I have not used meat and I was surprise how they would slam the bait. Windy and rough, but what a great day on the river! Thanks to Steve at Everts and also to all you folks on this site for sharing info. Great site!

Finally a chance to post. Our only fish last Friday came on a jig. Pool 2 across from the confluence, at the mud cliffs, held more fish than I’ve seen in ages, but only one small walleye came to the surface. In a way, I’m happy to hear that not many fish made it to the boat. Seems like they are dieting right now.

I was glad for the company, though. Hawger kept us entertained and made me jealous at the same time. How the heck can a person sell stuff and still keep his line from getting snagged?

I about fell over at one point. He was on the phone, suddenly I hear a “Whoa!”, and turned to see him reeling like crazy as he put the phone down. He picked the phone back up again and laughed. “Just kidding,” he says. Made the whole day worthwhile.
