Well, for us it was slow…we tried numerous spots of which we have received tips from people and got the latest scoop from Everts prior to heading out. A lot of the private tips and Everts suggestions overlapped and left a couple other spots left to try. We started early in the morning and thought we would hit all the ‘more common’ areas before they got busy. After depleting all the common spots with nothing to show for it we moved downriver to some other areas. We fished all the ‘other’ private suggestions. We threw, blades, plastics and meat..worked every seam we could find, working everything slowwwww. After losing a half dozen jigs, and a half dozen blades, and nearly losing the anchor twice as it was stuck in two different underwater trees, the clock showed 1:30pm and we hadnt even landed a fish yet. It was time to head back to the ramp and regroup and think about what we were doing.
The water was rippin like I expected, but there are plenty of slower-current/cutbanks and seams to still work, but I surely thought that we would not have been skunked thus far.
The water temps dropped nearly 4 degrees from earlier reports and the water temp was 38.1 degrees when we started, went to about 41 degrees early afternoon and dropped again to nearly 38-39 by sunset.
I just would have thought that some of the slack areas along the current seams would have had fish more concentrated.
After regrouping and a quick snack, we decided to target some saugers and forget about the walleyes until the last 1.5 hours of daylight. The saugers were eager to chew on 3-ways with a pink or orange hook. After some nice 15-17″ saugers were in the box for a nice meal, we headed back to try for some more eyes. Again, got schooled and ended the day with not an eye caught. Frustrating, yes, but sure beats the office. We only saw 2 eyes caught all day with all the boats that we were around. Talking with people on the ramp, some people caught an eye here and there, but it surely was no banner day, but still a good day!
As always, the folks at Everts gave great service.
