    That I thought I would share…

Hey Brian Love all these posts of great fish pix but i don’t see too many of these guys wearing life jackets. Wouldn’t hurt to promote them!

I’m waiting on a story from a friend that took an unexpected dunking a couple weeks ago. Guess what?

He’s now wearing a PDF while out on the water.

I know…falling out of the boat unexpectedly won’t ever happen to you.

Somebody I know once said that if he knew which day he was going to fall out of the boat, he would just wear his PFD that day, but he does not so he wears it every day.

The water was a balmy 45 degrees this weekend, please wear your PFD.

I think I know that guy Ben!

I’ve been wearing Float-techs for around 6 years now and there’s a number of fellow Ido’ers that have them as well.

Very comfortable around the neck and automatic or manual inflation. The sleeves zip off on the outer shell along with a hood for those sudden down pours. Or on those hotter days, the outer shell doesn’t need to be worn at all.

Personally, I really don’t care what brand you end up. Just end up with one. It’s much easier on the recovery team that needs to pull your azz out of the water and keeps a person recognizable for your family to claim.

So was there one or two water rescues on the Mississippi in the twin cites last week? Guess there was one from the Camden area over the weekend. Thought there was another earlier last week.

I didn’t hear of any. But then I don’t check the news either.

I was always an “occasional” wearer of my PFD. Sometimes didn’t put it on even for extended runs on big water.

Now that I too, don’t move as quickly as I used to, I find myself wearing my PFD all the time. Even when I am anchored in and fishing.

I feel better wearing it and I can concentrate on my fishing. I am getting better at hooking myself to the kill switch lanyard also.

I may not need to live a longer life but my grandkids deserve to have me around a bit more.

I’m getting one before my boat hits the water this year. Been in twice, both times with jackets. The old style are too uncomfortable so I’m going to buy a nice inflatable this year.

If it was just me I most likely wouldnt be to concerned about wearing one. Seeing a family standing at the end of the ramp up here waiting while guys where out dragging grappling hooks around for their father/husband changed my mind.

As I was making my second post above, I asked myself “am I going a bit over the top?” Then I thought about exactly what you saw at the edge of the ramp and posted it.

Remember the muskie fishermen a couple falls ago on Mille Lacs?
I don’t know if the guy would have survived by wearing a pfd or not, I do know his family wouldn’t have needed to wait until the following spring to put closure to losing the bread winner of the family.

What if you’re a dad, but instead of being a bread winner you’re a deadbeat, should you still wear a flotation device?

Depends if you think you would find more enjoyment by being able to keep fishing for fish instead of swimming with them.

Guys, There was a boat lost with four people on board last night on Lake Erie, the were heading in around 6:00, and never made it to the landing. The Coast Guard found the boat this morning, with no-one on board. There are now four people missing in Lake Erie. http://www.toledonewsnow.com/story/25270562/coast-guard-searching-for-missing-boat-near?utm_content=buffer50006&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Just another reason to wear your PFD all the time. Please pray for them and their families.

Sad story. Would guess those folks might of needed survival suits to stand a chance on that big lake.

Even on the rivers around here in the winter time I dont think a life jacket is a guarantee you are going to make it out alive. It just means you will be on the surface.

There are other things that should be in place to to help if a incident comes up. Letting people know when to expect you back. Maybe cell phone and lighter in water proof bag. Wear your kill switch cord. This last item is a must if by yourself. Debatable with others in the boat.

Make sure others in the boat know what to do if someone goes in the water. This last precaution is very important if boating with others that are not familiar with being in boats, on the water or even your boat. Takes just a few seconds to point out the boat cushion, rope, how to start the motor, ect. If those in the boat do not know what to do quickly you can easily float away from the boat very fast, out of range of that cushion or throw rope.
