Ok … how long does it take an average idiot like me to figure out how to find and catch the eyes. I’m new to this ! Lol also when is walleye tourney on pool 4 ? Was there last year when it was going on and if Ihad a weapon … they might have gotten lessons on respect . Yes …. I’m as green as the come on the river … 4 smallies over 20″ in 10 minuites was cool …but looking to get some big eyes action.

Weapon? Lesson on Respect? Thats a bit extreme. Dont go to pool 4 if you dont have a lot of patience and expect some bumper boat fishing.

Pool 4 is a vast area with many different aspects, Lake Pepin, upper river portion, lower river, back channel… In a few trips you could get a fair handle on the area by the dam. That takes care of about .05% (complete guess on the amount but the number would be very small) of Pool 4 and only for the season/flow/water level that you learned it in.

If you are looking a more general answer, my estimate is it takes a couple years to figure out basics of the river and where to look for fish during each season. Sometimes several years of experience are not enough to find the Walleyes.

id say the fastest way to speed up your learning curve would be to go with a guide

stopping by at everts n chatting them up is a great way as well. they always got the latest info on the bite.

hoppin in the boat with a seasoned P4 fisherman will do also

here n there, you’ll see a post looking for a fishing partner. beer, snacks, bait can go a long long ways

last Wednesday i caught fish V-jiggin, draggin and pitching, plastics, blades and minnow but slow slow was the way to go.

    i fished from 16-25fow

    4 SMB over 20 in one day…..
I’d be darned stoked about that for a year!! I started fishing the river a few years ago and just starting to figure it out a bit, biggest being only 23″ I know I’ve had a few 10#s though(without confirmation) come off. Put your time in and the fish will come.

the walleyes aren’t hard to find by the dam this time of year. Just look for the boat that seems to be catching most of the fish and try to do the same thing they are doing.
