Made it out on the water for a few hours this morning. Worked some backwater that I had no fished before and found a few fish. Released a 22 and two 24″ers, and kept a couple eaters. Also worked some wings, and the fish are there but have to work a little harder than last week to catch them. A couple wings in the Albany area where covered with boats, while the rest of the pool was open for my picking. Go figure?!?! I did not try any jigs today, just stuck with 3 way and spinner rig with leeches or crawlers on the wings, and trolling lead in the backwater area. Had a little trouble keeping catfish and bluegills off the line, but that is o.k. One flat head put a real stretch on my lead core. Probably a 15# fish. What power those kitties have

Thanks for the report! I am thinking of coming over e-a-r-l-y tomorrow morning if I can make it out. Over lunch hour today, I got some Gulp leeches, shad, and minnow grubs. I’m gonna try fishing the wings with Dubuque rigs (never tried that before!) and see how I do. Question for you guys who fish the Dubuque rigs, (obviously this depends on current) but is there such a thing as an “average” jig weight for the bottom leg of the 3-way, or is this just something one acquires with more experience?

I was gonna try a 3/8 oz. jig with a minnow grub and then a leech with a bead or Phelps floater on the top end.

If that rig fails, then I can always break out the shad raps and leadcore. I know I can catch fish with that set-up.

I think the lightest I’ve ever used on a Dubuque rig on a wingdam was 5/8oz, but I don’t usually hit the wings until midsummer heat and low water, so I tend to fish the ones with a fair amount of current.

I tried with lighter jigs once at Lake MacBride, but to be honest with you, with a dubuque rig or a three-way, I’m relying on the current to keep your rig straight and untangled. Still water was a not good kind of thing for me.
