I honestly don’t think there’s an answer without moving the fishing boundary downstream far enough to include the scour and to leave it there all year long. In large part the problem exists because people simply won’t police themselves even if they are aware that many of the fish they take there will die. Whether they don’t care or whether they are not informed, who knows. Those of us who understand the ugly nature of the scour and what can happen to the fish that come from it choose to not fish it, but for those who don’t have exposure to this kind of chatter on a web-page or maybe only get up here a couple times a year are just one of the negative elements. We also have those who know but don’t give a rip.
I hate seeing expanded regulations on anything and feel that a boundary shift isn’t fair to those who stay away from the hole at all costs. If the boundary is moved to include that scour, the one below the “Y” will get leaned on more than it already does.
Does the DNR know what’s happening there? Absolutely. I think that MN and WI should come together and post notices [signs] at all points of entry showing where these two scours are located and are off limits to anglers. People found with a line in them should be getting a ticket.
Wrong thread perhaps?
