Went down yesterday with a rod and reel and an underwater camera from 11 am to 5 pm with the sole intent of finding strictly walleyes in shallower water that looked active being off the bottom cruising around found a two likely spots near the dam seen fish with the cam in about 16 to 24 ft would let it be and checked other spots went back to the spots with three different tactics : a blade bait rod and two different jig sizes with a small puls’r in natural pro blue and the other jig with a little chartreuse super doo. Vertically jigged drug up and downstream, varying speeds and routes basically threw the tub at em. Daily total 1 19″ walleye on the rod in the rod holder while I was messing with frozen up guides on the other. Post front clear skies clear water equal…. Wow I got whooped!

Sounds like you had a good plan…..

Getting whooped on the river right now still sounds a lot better than sitting here wishing for that time.

16-24′ is shallow Would assume you checked shallower but due to the boat factor I’m sure most would spook before you saw them, especially if they are active. I did the plastic and live bait thing all day and said screw that with an hour left, got aggresive with concentrating on the 10-14′ seams trolling cranks and got one, too little to late for me but for you might not be.

And yeah I fished up shallow and deep where I hoped the fish would slide up or down in a given spot

Everybody takes a whoopin out there time to time!!! It’s part of her nature. The thing that has always bugged me is how that 1 or 2 fish out of the hundreds and hundreds of eyes you KNOW are below you decided that they needed to eat, but 800 others were like- nope.

Drive safely and watch for ice although that should be cleared up if any by the time you get to the area.

    Might see you tonight!

Have a great time, fish or no fish.

Wear your damn PFD. It’s not like people can see you flailing your arms in the dark.

March 7 Friday night we stayed out till 10 pm pitched a couple of areas with only one to two fish in them then hit one spot that was absolutely on fire ! Literally every cast was a fish for 20 minutes all saugers nothing big but fun non the less tried some dragging befor we left after some of the boat parade left and got three nice walleyes. nothing over 19″ all night. Totalled over 30 fish. March 10 went down during midday to poke around with the camera again went all the way down to jugs and only found a couple spots back up to bay point that had fish on or around them. I would say there isn’t much of a migration of fish coming up. But….. Some of the walleyes I seen were some big mommas. No fish caught during the day most of the time I was looking on the camera! Gonna get out one more time this week at night because it’s just to much fun and the day bite stinks!
