There’s a big piece of water I never fish between the airport and Lilly Dale. Specifically downtown. It would be kinda neat to catch eyes in front of the hussle and bussle.
Anyone have any luck around there?

I have never had the chance to stop there yet. Last trip out I was looking at some of the rip rap shorelines around there for trolling. To bad the barges cover up so many of them. With all the structure in that area you would think there should be fish around.
The sand flats to the north east of the airport and the train bridge up river from down town are as close as I have tried fishing.

I have noticed a BIG ripple right under the bridge down town when boating through. That seems interesting. I need to get down there and graph it all out.

I’ve shore fished the area downtown a few times (snuck out during lunch at work ) without much success. When the water was lower I would walk out on the exposed wing dams near lillydale and toss ringys…no walleyes though, a few carp and honest-to-goodness a pair of panties I’m just glad the body wasn’t still attached!
I agree though, looking down from the Wabasha bridge gives me some ideas…I could save a lot on parking downtown if they had a spot for my boat!

I’ve always been interested in that downtown area. I just wish my boat could get to it faster, being that its in between launches. Anyway, I’ve caught walleyes right behind the bridge pilings there, and it seems like such an interesting spot with all the shallow structure on the south/west side, and all the deep water on the north/east side. One year I graphed 55-60 feet in the main channel there, with alot of large fish off to the side in slower water suspended, but nothing would bite. Wonder what they were?

Ya know I’ve been thinking about this, I believe the telemetry study covers a bit of this, Click ME been awhile since I’ve read it, but it should offer a bit of insight. I like to learn this area since it’s right out in front of my work.

I had some success in the backwater by the old power plant on the downtown side of the river. Working plastics and cranks off the shoreline breaks. It’s worth a try…..
