I had to swing by after work and take a look. I think that dark strip out in the middle might actually have been open water but it was a long way away.

I didn’t take any pictures as people are already depressed the way it is.

    I can’t take much more of this….

With the right rod you could cast to the middle.

Thanks for the update Steve. I bet we are back on pool 2 sometime in the next 2 to 3 weeks. It getting closer. Got a feeling then its going to be a few quick trips before all heck breaks loose and high water hits.

Yeah it does! Fritz and I will be out running just as soon as it warms up a bit…so Spring weather is probably going to take forever to get here!

Bus drivers tell me they can always count on snow and ice gone off the streets by St. Paddy’s day. Supoose there’s any connection?
One of the neighborhood Finns says he moves out on soft water after he sobers up from St.Urhu’s Day.

I drive by the access every week, and so far it looks like you could still fish a tip up in the middle of the channel.

It would be cool to find a GOOD spot you could ice fish on P2. I know its an insanely dangerous idea but you know such spots exist today..

There was an in fisherman article last month about ice fishing walleyes on the Minnesota River. It was pretty interesting, and they catch some giant pigs. The ice can also be very sketchy….

If I lived closer to that area I would spend more time seeking out those ice spots Mike.

Any changes on conditions yet this week? Got a feeling there might be some open water poking out by the weekend. Or maybe hoping there is.

Stopped by the Coon rapids dam and she is as locked up as I’ve seen. Some huge ice chunks floating in the Eddie there. Makes a guy wonder even if she breaks open how dangerous it would be in a boat with the amount of thick ice that is on the whole system, and for how long.

I icefish pool 2. Fish are hungry too! There are open spots with fish stacked in them by shore also if you wanted to cast for them. At night I can shine my flashlight into the open water and actually see fish.
