Fishing wasn’t as good for me as a week ago but different in an interesting way. Same location and depth that was successful before was not this time. Only caught 2 fish in 9-12. Just over 12″ seemed to be better. Figured out a neat pattern late in the morning and could kick ourselves for not finding it sooner. The nice fish were right on shore. Found them by troling sticks in 5-8 feet. After picking up 2 on jointed stick Raps we ended up catching a 22 and 24 right on the shore casting cranks. Caught a few others as well. Those fish must have been in 2-3 feet of water. They scattered like roaches as soon as the sun burned through the fog at around 09:45. If only we’d have known sooner we could have had that bite for 3-4 hours!! Ended up landing only 8 keepers for the morning. Mixed in were a couple of big sheep, 2 decent pike and 2 jumbo perch?? That was cool. I feel like such a rookie just starting to get my feet wet in Pepin. On the drive home we were just awed by the size of that water and how good the fishing can be. My quest begins to learn the lake.
Pepin on 7/10
