RED WING, Minn. (KTTC) — Dozens of anglers took advantage of the warm weather on Tuesday and went boating on the Mississippi River for open water fishing.
“Up here by the dam there’s what’s called the scouring hole and it gets to about 80 foot deep,” said Doug Robinson of Maple Grove.
Avid anglers-like Doug Robinson-started warming up for another season on the water. The warm temperatures have even lured in fishermen from Iowa and Wisconsin.
There are no boundaries when it comes to trolling for the catch of the day: walleye and sauger.
“Any window of opportunity that I’m given, I’m going to take advantage of it this time of year for sure,” said Robinson.
According to the DNR’s website, the largest recorded fish caught in the Mississippi near Red Wing was in June of 2007. It was a Shovelnose Sturgeon.
