Pool 2/ Minnetona (??)/ world’s going to Hell rept

Saturday proved to be quite the interesting trip on upper pool 2. First for the fishing… 6 Walleyes (including my largest river eye), 1 smallie, and 2 sheepies. The big eye caught me off guard, as I honestly thought it was at least 27″ – the girth was unbelievable. Unfortunately, it was short of that. Fish were scattered from the confluence up to Hidden falls, and Clown slightly outproduced Firetiger.

Now for the other issues. IS pool 2 now considered Minnetonka East? Does anyone in their right mind think that this area is prime crusin area for a 30’+ foot Baja that is oblivious to other boats in the area? Do we now have to settle for certain people buzzing us in their personal watercraft? Do we need to settle for pleasure boats going full boar 30′ from our boat? All the above happened throughout the day there. Do we need to create add’l regulations for that area? I am not a believer in ‘more gov’t’, but this is getting to be a little bit dangerous up there.

Now for the strangest moment. I’m about 200 yards up from the confluence, trolling downstream on the east bank. I glance into the woods, and here is a guy running away from me with his pants down at his ankles. My first thought is I interupted a romantic moment for a couple, but I didn’t see a woman anywhere – nor a man. What the heck was he doing back there? I don’t even want to think about it. Oh the joy of living in an urban area….

Nubben, are you sure you weren’t on the St Croix? About the only differance is usaully it girls with their tops off….everything esle sounds like the Croix on the week end.

    I have a couple suggestions….
Take up night catfishing on the weekends (I did)
    Fish backwaters on the weekends
Be off the water by 10 a.m. in the morning…or stay off the water altogether on the weekends….

Sorry, but that’s the reality of fishing on warm summer day close to the Metro area.

Can you say FIVE-OF-DIAMONDS with the trebles removed. If you can see thier eyes get big when you stand up to cast it at them, then they are too close.

    Not bad advice….

Just a note to any reader who has never boated this section of the Mississippi. It’s a faily narrow section. A guy with a good arm can throw a rock from shore to shore in many areas. So any tuna boat on half plane will rock you pretty good. And they all look too close for their speed!!

nubbinbuck, you need to head south and get on a wingdam! Keeps the ocean liners away from ya!

It is amazing that the fish still bite with all the boat traffic going on over head. I supose that if they waited until it calmed down they might starve.

I didnt read how big the walleye was.

Yes, you didn’t. I am taking the 5th (like Jake) on that one. Suffice it to say, they are healthy. I caught several dozen of this size in Canada 3 weeks ago, and that girth just completely freaked me out…

One last comment. I grew up in the Lake Geneva, WI area, so I am well aware of weekend boating traffic issues. My concern is this – that area north of the confluence is just not large enough for some of these plesure Yachts to be going full bore. If common sense were the norm, I would never had commented on it as they have every right in the world to use that waterway.

You are so right and it’s funny…it’s MN waters…you would thing we would have a law requiring common sense…(we have one for everything else)

AMEN!!!!! I was up on the bend just upstream from the Hwy 5 bridge and a yacht went by at about 20-30 mph. I have a 14 ft. Lund. Needless to say, if i didn’t quick start the motor and turn the nose into the waves coming at me, we would have been in the water for sure! Last thing i remember seeing is the girlfriend about 2 feet off the front seat!! And yes, the “dating” that occasionally goes on in the woods is pretty annoying when your trying to work a rip-rap shoreline.

I would say that guy was most likely trolling also.

Did he look something like this?
