As some of you may know I am out of a boat right now. I popped the engine on my 150 Johnson last Monday. So when Chappy offered to take me on the lake for some walleye action I could not refuse. I hadn’t been on the water in almost a week and I was starting to really get the fever.
The day started out with rain, wind, and some very threatening lightning strikes. To tell you the truth we shouldn’t of even been out there with that much lightning but Chappy and I figured that because there were two other boats out there our chances of being the boat that gets hit is cut down to 33%. I can live with that. Besides, I am shorter than Chappy so as long as I stayed closer to the water than he I would be fine.
We were concentrating on pulling raps in 10-13 feet of water. While it was raining the walleyes were on a tear. We had 12 legals in the boat and many more released in about four hours. The best colors seemed to be perch and craw when it was raining and black and white shad after the rain stopped but we got action on most colors we tried.
After the sun came out the action died off quickly on the lake so Chappy and I hit the river for a couple more decent legals before we called it a day.
Thank you much Chappy for the invite. You are a class act. We’ll have to do it again real soon.
