Started the afternoon about 3:30 or so in front of Lake city, and within the 1st 10 minutes had a nice 18″er in the boat. Thought …this is going to be easy! 1 hour later and 1 dink sauger and a nice crappie later we decided to head to Maiden Rock. Started out south of Pine creek and before we got to the sand Bar we pulled 4 more ‘eyes in , all 17-19’es.Turned around just south of Maiden rock and cruised back over the sand bar instead of around it, Man that get’s shallow! Turned out to the middle of the river till it dropped off and then south again and Dad’s rod doubled over! Thout ..Sweet, Dad’s biggest walleye and he’s with me!!!!! Not to be, Turns out to be a 6-7 pound Northern! He caught it as we came off that bar in about 3-4 feet of water on a gold and black Shad rap. No one color out performed the rest, Red Crawdad, blue and chrome, Yellow all did alright.Crappie came on the Chrome and Blue. Heading back out Friday afternoon, anyone want’s to go PM me.

Chappy- I’m heading out this afternoon or tomorrow as well (depending on when I finish re-plastering my kitchen walls…ick). What depth ranges were you targetting? Were you running boards or just straight back? Thanks in advance, maybe I’ll see you out there (I run a green C-liner fishhawk with a 115 Johnson).

I’m planning to be out Sat morning with a buddy. I’m hitting the spot Crossin Eyes and I slayed them on last Sun. Fingers crossed I get the same action there or nearby. I purchased enough new cranks this week to finally hit the limit with my wife. She sounded the “stay away from Gander” alarm just last night. $70 in cranks will do that….

Well my son and I both river rookies had a great day on the water. Thanks to advice from alot of you on this site we managed to boat 5 nice 16-19″ eyes and a couple big crappies in the Maiden Rock flats today. No sun, a little misty rain and a nice chop made for fine trolling. Blue/silver and green/orange did the trick. The first fish was a beauty but the boy needs a little more net practice. Does catch and release count if the fish is within 3 feet and the net pulls the rap loose?? And the real fun was the nice sheepie he caught about 3.5#…. “Dad, it’s grunting” Gotta love it. Here is to all of you from me.

    Suzuki:

Dude, $70 in cranks in one week is about as noisy as a fart in church with the wives…

You have be like me, and make like a stealth bomber, “come in under the radar screen”.

I buy one or two a week with my spare lunch/beer money. That way, nobody misses anything and you slowly build up a nice set.
