Hey- my sealines have been flawless with leadcore and mono- but I am absolutely done with them using superlines. I can’t pull the trigger on tekotas yet, is there a reel that won’t let the braid get between the spool and the reel causing you to retie? I use superlines longlining and with 3-ways- Thank you for any insight-

Interesting problem.. I have 6 size 17’s with hardline on them and have never had an issue with them.
Just a guess but it sounds to me your running to much line ?
January 6, 2014 at 6:44 pm #1377611I have never had that happen with a sealine. Don’t fill the spool to the max that might help. I also own tekota’s and will say for the difference in price not worth it. When is it happening?
January 6, 2014 at 7:31 pm #1377633I’ve run hard lines on 27’s for years and just like others here, have never had this issue.
I also run hundreds of feet of hard line below lead core on my 47’s when fish salmon and the problem you describe has never once happened on those reels either. It does make me wonder what your doing differently that is causing this issue.
January 6, 2014 at 8:12 pm #1377646I posted a question about this a few months ago and a bunch of people chimed in knowing exactly what I’m talking about. All said go to tekotas. They are 17s- I have only had it happen to me 2 times in 6 years but guests in my boat have experienced waaaay more than 2 times. Once the 10-4 fireline gets between the spool and reel it is game over- plan on retying- don’t have the patience anymore. Reels are on craigslist right now cheap if you want them- I’m done…

I don’t over fill the spool- mainly happening when letting line out, I have spool tension set well- but sometimes it blurts out and perfectly wraps one strand of line between spool and reel and its game over for that rod.
January 6, 2014 at 9:39 pm #1377675I would obviously tell buyers of my superline issue- I’m so used to my depth curves I don’t want to up the diameter of the line.

If it is blurting out as you say I would tighten the spool tension just a hair you may be getting some movement from the spool back and forth. I would also check it sounds like something is binding up just a bit and causing the spool to jump free causing an overrun. I have 17`s using 10 lb Fireline and have never had that happen.

If you run your spool tension too loose, you will get a fair amount of left to right play on the spool, which opens you up to getting line between the spool and frame. I used to like to run my spools really loose but a couple times getting line between the spool and frame was enough for me. Haven’t had an issue since running more tension. Not related to that issue, but I am working on replacing all my sealines with Takotas. Much smoother real IMO.
