What a blast to see a father and son fishing together, always one upping each other. Really made for some fun helping with the digs as each one caught another walleye.
We were doing the walleye thing today with two guide customers. Awesome day. No-stop action from 9-12 and scraglers before and after. Fished from bottom of Minnesota slough to almost the Spillway. We pulled firetiger clatter shads upstream in 3-6 feet of water and drifted back down with 1/4 oz jighead florescent yellow tail and a taste of crawler… skip the tail or the crawler piece and it was slow going. The walleye measured from 15.5-21 inches with only 2 undersized all day!!!!!!
Don’t know if anybody else does a lot of trolling with rattletrappie type baits, but they work great in the right situation. Found myself out of my prefered shallow diver about a year and a half ago and caught a bunch pulling the clattershads and yesterday they didn’t seem to want the shallow divers at all…so the clatter shads paid big dividends.
Also a couple of nice gators and a piggy “Stump sucker” to boot. Hey I can call a LM Bass a stumpsucker on days that I’m not fishing for them YA KNOW. I’m curious how others did for walleye on the fourth… we saw quite a few fish caught by other boats…one boat with a dad and two sons had a nice double within sight of us.
