One of my fishing partners, Pete Dumas, and I spent the day Wednesday with James Holst. I was fishing long before James was born, but he really showed us some new techniques for river fishing. We took home 6 fish to eat but caught close to 20 keepers, along with a lot of cigars. James popped a nice 27″ walleye on a jig & leech.
I was out again, by myself, yesterday, Friday, and caught a couple keepers and a bunch of little ones. I bought a Lindy weedless jig [the only weedless I saw] as James has his own prototype weedless jigs. I tagged into a good fish with the Lindy and while I was playing him the hook straightened and the fish was gone. That hook looked like an L instead of a J, and I don’t think the fish was that big. I could easily bend the jig hook back with my fingers.
JAMES! You have got to get that jig into production. It sure worked great for us on Wednesday.
Hey, guys, how about some more reports on the north end of Pool 4. I might not get out this weekend. Dumas has trouble getting out of bed.
FYI: Bay Point Park access is closed for the weekend, so use Colville, or the public launch on the Wisconsin channel, or go see Steve at Evert’s. He’s has fish-catching leeches there.
Good Fishing! Swede
