Does anyone have a Lowrance X-15 MT or X-91 and would you recommend these for your boat?

I have both on my boat and would reccomend both. If you can afford it go with the x-15, this unit has great image resolution and detail.

If you can afford them Id recommend them both. I looked at both units for a long time at a retail store and really liked them but I think you pay a little more for the name. I like the new interface design and I thought the sharpness and definition was as good if not better than any.

The only question I would have is in regards to the X-15 and if this years version is better than last years. I heard some grumbling about the x-15 last year.

    Snagger (I like the handle),

I agree with hougie. Both units are great. I come from the paper graph era and replaced those units with an x-85. I used that x-85 for four years and never had a problem. I am running a new x-15 this spring and am looking forward to using it. Jon

A fiend of mine bought a X-15 last year and had nothing but touble with it. He finally took it back to Cabela’s and they replaced it with a new one. The last time I looked at it, it didn’t seem to be working all that great yet. I’ll stick with my X-85.

I’ve shared my frustrations with my x-15 here many times. Transducer problems, inability to mark fish that my pinpoint 7420 showed with ease, clouded screen, etc, etc.

I will say though, for every guy like myself that had a bad experience with their x-15, there’s two more tha tseem to really like there’s.

I guess it all comes down to the luck of the draw or hopefully Lowrance has made improvements since last season.

I have messed with those two units a little and still prefer my pinpoint 7520. This has been a solid unit at an average price.

I’ve had an x-15 since last spring and love it. Lowrance had several software updates after it first came out and the updates took care of many minor problems like skinny water reading, etc. From what I can tell, the latest version is 2.1. I would imagine new units have that loaded. If not the included MMC cards and reader allow you to download from Lowrance. I had Garmin 240 and replaced it this spring with an x-85 and I am anxious to see how the x-85 works. Wasn’t impressed with Garmin.

I have a Garmin 240 on the bow of my rig this year and have been very impressed with it’s finding’s. Interested to know what is it you do not like about the Garmin 240? Just wondering. I seem to think mine does a pretty good job.

I also had the 240 off the bow but mounted the transducer on the transom. I can’t say I didn’t like the 240. I really liked the unit because it was simple to use and quick to change settings. The screen looked great in direct sunlight. I never experienced product defects. I just couldn’t seem to get the readings I expected in terms of detail. Fish showed up as black spots, baitfish were difficult to detect, weeds were intermittent black marks. I spent some time adjusting sensitivity and grayscale, etc. but maybe not enough. The readings could also have been effected from poor transducer location or angle (maybe even operator error?). I would have kept the 240 but found a closeout on the x-85 and like some of the features on the x-85. Plus I sold my boat and the Garmin went with it, no way could I part with the x-15 though. One thing I changed this year was to mount the transducer off the bow trolling motor.

I recently got a maxxum 74 with universal sonar and put an x-91 on it. I love it, but i do have a question- im not sure if the universal sonar allows the water temp to work- anybody know this and how can i get it added if it does not. thanks.

Sounds reasonable enough. Thanks for explaining for me. I usually have the sensitivitey turned all the way up and it works pretty good for me. I have never run with an X-85 so I have no comparison with that unit. I have noticed the graph speed to be kind of slow. This is the only down fall for me. Using it on the trolling motor doesn’t seem to be a problem when it comes to this. I am usually going pretty slow drifting with the current in no hurry at all. I know a friend that runs the X-85. I will have to check it out and see what’s up.

    Thank’s!

Bassbaron- Minnkota did not put a temp sensor in the puck of any of the sonar/depth finder combos. I talked to a minnkota rep at the cabelas expo and he said he has a lot of request to add this if possible. I hope they do!
