Made it out a handful of times on Pool 2 this fall from late October to late November chasing fall walleyes. Most trips were 3-4 hours after work but a few were late nights. The bite for the most part was pretty consistent; however, some adjustments were needed each night to keep the net wet. For the most part jigs on wing dams was the common tactic. All wing dams seemed to hold some fish at times; with some nights only one or two fish per dam and other nights the dams were loaded. Hopping from dam to dam in a series proved to be a good tactic allowing fish to reload on the previous dam.
Jigs for the most part ranged in size from 3/16 down to 1/16 depending on the dam. Both hair and plastics took fish with BFishN Tackle Moxies and Puls-Rs getting the nod. Hand tied hair jigs also produced! Wing Dams can beat up jigs pretty quickly chewing up paint and rolling over hook points. The Larson’s Quality Jigs held up to the challenges and put lots of fish in the boat this fall. Give them a look on Facebook at Larson’s Quality Jigs.
One common theme was fish following the jigs close to the boat and striking as the jig changed directions on the retrieve. This made for some interesting hooksets and net jobs with only 5-10 feet of line out.
The upcoming weather this weekend does not look good for P2 but hopefully it passes and warms back up allowing a few more outings. Last year the last trip for us was 12/15. Thanks to all that shared time in the boat this fall!
