Was out until 3am, The ramp was mostly open with just thin 1/2″ areas of ice floating by…further up river, we found the same thing, areas of small to larger areas of 1/2″ ice floating, some of the ice covering half the width of the river in areas. We were still able to fish all areas we wanted to fish as we sometimes had to have patience for ice to float by. Fishing was slow like it had been for us for the last couple weeks. After finally finding some bait fish, we were able to start getting some tight lines. Sad to say, I think this was the last time out and time to hit the hard water. Water temps were 32.9 when we started and nearly 34 degrees when we left.

I was out yestarday morning the 494 ramp was almost un-usable until I crashed through it. Further south I went the less spots I could fish we had a few tight lines but was either a [censored], carp and ect.. I think it will have to be p4 from now on.

Yesterday and today found lots of ice float around. Had much better bites going during the day than staying later. Seems like a little bit of everything catching fish. Blades, hair jigs and plastics. Sure wish I had Monday and Tuesday off this week.

We just got back and never had a bite with three guys fishing. The river is pretty much unfishable right now as there is ice (skim and thicker chunks) covering most of it. We left the ramp at 5 and it was mostly open, and coming back at 11pm we were breaking ice almost the whole way. Surprised it formed that quick since it wasn’t even that cold out. I guess with some wind and warmth it could open up again. Time for Red Wing.

That mush of been you guys in the ranger out there Marty. Was kinda thinking the same thing as we loaded up about 8 last night. Temps where just barely at freezing and you could see new ice forming on the water. Was thinking about trying to get in one last trip this afternoon but that will depend on work and road conditions.

Not quite sure what happened to the bite the last 2-3 weeks. It has been really tough for us. We only had 4 total hits all night/morning on our last trip of which we landed three of them. All hits were in an area we could see some baitfish. But even trying to find any baitfish is hard to find.

After this next cold front coming in on Wed…I am afraid to say, but I think the river will be locked up tight.

That ice is just a protective coating over those fish until spring time. Sad to see it come to a end.
