I stopped at the fish cleaning house only to find Ol’ Bucktail Wayne cleaning his fish.
Now if any of you know BUCKTAIL Wayne, you know he’s a hair jig kind of fisherman. So our conversation was a bite…strange.
BK: Wayne, how’s the bite?
BW: BK, just look at these fish!
BK: They are nice. (nothing under 15″ nothing over 18″)
BW: BK, it’s a BITCHin’ bite right now. It’s the best I’ve had in years!
BK: Can I quote you on that Wayne?
BW: Damn right you can…and we through all our fish back this morning. They were just too big to keep. This mess is from this afternoon!
BK: Really? What were they biting on.
BW: Hey, I just want one more day of this before the place turns crazy BK.
BK: Wayne, Wayne…people just can’t take off of work to go fishing at the drop of a hat you know.
BW: Yeah Right! They were just crushing chrome blades…just ((&&(**^ crushing them!
BK: Pitched or jigged?
BW: BOTH! It was the best bite I had in a long long time.
BK: Wayne, you fish buck tails.
BW: I KNOW! But the blades were working.
BK: You know people won’t believe me that YOU were fishing blades Wayne.
BW: That’s ok. I want one more day like today.
Well, I hope this bite stays this way or I’m…and Wayne are going to look like a schmuck.
Fish the regular areas. There are very nice size fish to be had and please stay out of the nursery. The deep scour hole area. We need those 10″ fish for next year. Hooking them and bringing them out from the depths will kill many even if they swim away. There’s better size fish in the shallower water.
There’s (by the looks of the gut buckets) plenty of eater size fish to be had.
There were some using plastics, although they caught some nice fish, clearly the chrome blade was king today.
PS I’m going to try to call in sick tomorrow. See ya on the water tomorrow Wayne! LOL!
