Mike and I went out on pool 2 last night and tried pitching plastics to some wing dams.
Let me start by saying I have a small amount of river knowledge to begin with, and most of that aquired knowledge is in the form of finding out where not to fish. So I will put another river experience in that steel trap I call my memories bank.
I did have the opportunity to fish with Jon Jordan this summer and learn a few spots he fishes. So with that in mind I was determined to try and find other simular areas that may hold fish.
We fished several wing dams south of the 494 bridge without any success.
We started fishing from the tips of those dams and would then move closer to shore pitching jigs, and casting crank baits. Our only fish was a nice 13″ crappie thar Mike caught at the base of the dam.
Now I have a couple questions for anyone who pitches jigs on the river, with the hope that you could help shorten my learning curve.
Hair Jigs? and do you tip these with plastics?
Color patterns? is there a color of choice in daylight vs night time hours?
With the colder water temps? do you give up using live bait?
