I got out on Pool 2 after work this afternoon, first time on the river since last fall. It felt kind of strange and then I realized I haven’t picked up a spinning rod since early June. I’ve been doing a lot of fly fishing!
Nothing really new to add since Mike W’s report. Most of my action came on long trolling runs, a fish here and a fish there. I hit a few wingdams and the fish in the picture came right off the top of one that had a little flow on it. I didn’t have any live bait, I stuck with crank baits all afternoon. They seemed to like the color red today. Water temp was 64 degrees and the clarity isn’t great yet.
The weather man had predicted we would get some weather later tonight, but I kept my eyes open anyway. Around 6PM it seemed like every Deer in the neighborhood came down to the river for a drink. I counted 17 Deer! And the Eagles, all of a sudden they were all over the place too. Right after that I popped a nice Walleye off the top of that wingdam, got a picture, and then ran for the access. 20 minutes later there was thunder and lightning and it was raining hard. So did the animals know it was coming? I don’t know but it was interesting to watch it all happen.
