Pool 2 Report

My report is the walleye fishing on pool 2 seems to be pretty typical for this time of year and low water conditions. Kinda hit and miss but there are fish to be caught. Long line trolling seems to be putting better numbers in the boat. A few tricks like running those lures down river or putting a little better speed on them going up seems to help trigger the bites. The wingdam bite was pretty off for us yesterday with a lot of pitching and casting cranks for just a few walleyes. Crawlers seemed to get the nod for this yesterday but did have plenty of leaches that got snatched off the hook.

Hope to get out at least one more time this week before the contest this weekend. Hoping with the cooler temps coming in the water temps will continue to fall and get those fish chewing a little better.

Here is Joels big fish from yesterday. A nice 24″ walleye.

Patrick and I were out for a few hours yesterday trying to shake off the P2 cobwebs. Yesterdays performance would be welcomed come Saturday. We didn’t crush the fish by any means, but we did end up with 11-13 fish at an average of around 19-20 inches. The later in the day it got, the better the action was. The only pattern that we found was that there was no pattern. We caught fish on live bait, cranks, blades, and hair jigs. They were in shallow and out deep. Presentation speed was also all over the board.

We noticed little shad busts occurring in the shallows. With cooler nights in the forecast, let’s hope that the shad get moving and the fish follow suit.

I’m really looking forward to hanging out with other p2’ers at the get together this weekend. It sounds like we will have several great prizes again this year. And, as always, the food at the potluck won’t disappoint!

Just a heads up. Even though it is almost October you can still get quite sunburned. Today I am almost as red-faced as somebody who voted for Obama twice!

Posting a “like” because I always enjoy (and usually learn something from) reading Mike W’s reports. Not because Mike W shamed and brow beat me into it.

There’s a lot of tight lips! Haha. Not many posts before Mikes tournament this weekend…was out yesterday and today all day. The fish were a bit tight-lipped right away in the morning. But by mid to late morning, they were on the chew. As others mentioned, walleyes were on the chew at various depths from 5fow on top of dams to 16fow. The dam bite was pretty weak by normal standards. I had only one hit on a crank..all fish were hitting various colors from green/chartreuse, blue and black. I had to throw everything at them and really could not pick out any certain preference. Plain H20 jigs to hair jigs worked well. I though a little heavier jig with a more aggressive jigging pattern worked best.
The river was pretty wide open with only a couple guides on the water. Overall, missed quite a few bites and landed only six in the 22-24″ range. A nice 10# cat was a fun fight, sure thought I had a nice eye on for a while…

    Nice fish!

I’ve only been on P2 once in the last month it’s been too long.

If you land only 6 of those on Saturday, you’ll be in great shape!

Landing six of those would be nice. I was out again today from 9am-2pm…wow, what a tough day….only landed one eye. Talked to two other guys with similar results….(maybe they were just making me feel good ) I just could not get a pattern going at all…that’s the river for yeah, good one day, fish are gone the next. Everything in every color was used today…tough. Hopefully Saturday will be better.

For the first time yesterday, I hooked into my first sippi crappie near a wing dam. After that, they would not leave me alone; I hooked into 7 of them. They were the perfect eating size too with 11″-12.5″…
