Hot…thats the report, and I am not talking about the fishing!

Fished from about 11pm until 3pm. The water temps were ranged from 84.8-85.2 during this time. I hadnt been out for nearly two weeks, but from the last time, I could say that the eyes got a little more aggressive around the 2-3pm time. This is when I got my only two walleyes of the day – a 22″ and a 25″.
I know there are a lot of guys who say you cannot mark walleyes on the sippi and I have to attest to that. Many times one will not mark a single fish, but yet, catch some eyes. But I also can mark eyes and catch them as well. I could mark most of the fish (which are likely not all walleyes) in the 9-13fow, but I just could not get them to hit anything. I threw it all at them. A couple light ‘picks” here and a couple light “picks” there, but no solid hits. The two eyes I did get, were on cranks in about 7fow between WDs near the break. I had one other smack on a crank on the top of a WD.
I just found it odd that with how hot the water temps were and the bright sun, that the eyes caught were in the 6-7fow.
There were only two other boats in the ramp and came across one guide when I was out there. Good thing there was a nice breeze to try and cool off my sunburn.

Been way to hot for this guy to get out on pool 2. Thanks for the up date. Hoping to maybe get back down there on Monday.

Yes, it was definitely hot. The breeze helped, but not for boat control. I fished Thursday evening and didn’t get much. Spent the first hour trolling with only a couple sheepies to show. Spent the next couple of hours working the dams with cranks, but got nothing. I did have one come unglued, but it was tough to cast and stay in place with that wind. Went back to trolling and finally hooked up with a couple of eyes. Unfortunately they were both eating size, not what I was hoping for. Still nice to be back out there, it has been about a month since I was on pool 2. The weather will change soon and then I will be down more often, looking for the big girls.

I got out today for several hours, not much luck for us. We did not catch a single walleye, caught several drum, croakers, smallmouth bass, and white bass.

Water temp was 79.8 degrees, that seemed odd to this river rookie.

Anyone fishing this evening? If I can get my carbs back together on the jon boat might have to head down for a evening trip.

Mike is out on P2 right now, I’ll be jumping in the jon boat here pretty soon. Mike’s Alumacraft is still going good. I’ve been bugging Mike to get the jon boat going again for a trip to the skinny waters of the upper Mississippi. So looks like a good shake down cruise is in the cards tonight.

    Guy need about 5 boats!

Fishing was a little slow last night on the dams only managed one walleye. Still plenty of other fish hanging on them. Did find one dam that seemed to have a fair amount of sunfish on it. Only managed to hook up a couple but just about every cast was the tell tail pecks at the jig. Might have to bring a panfish rod and lighter tackle next time to check these out a little more.

Jon boat stayed home last night. Still got a few things that need to get fixed up on it. It will get its shake down trip in on Sunday on the Miss north of aitkin.

We tried some shore fishing tonight, someone left the power on in the boat

Slow slow slow… And more slow

I am going home to plug the boat in tonight.

I had 76 F in the channel on Saturday afternoon. I thought for sure it would be in the low 80s.

I had a slow afternoon. One 20″ walleye, a couple in the 14-15″ range, three of the tiniest bass I have ever caught (two smallies and a largemouth). I had a couple decent fish pop off half way back to the boat and missed a couple others so I guess if I would have got those, it could have been a decent day.

I’m always surprised how many people run over the wing dams in Pool 2. On Pool 2 it seems the tops of the dams are deep enough to do this but try that on some wing dams on Pool 3 and you’ll at least need a new prop. I wonder if either these boaters know they’re deep enough or if they just don’t have a clue and are lucky that they are deep.

Fished pool 2, 9-8,from north of the city to the confluence.Sheepshead city, and 6 walleyes. All walleyes were in the same spot and hit a jig and minnow or the Salmo I was trolling with equal aggressivness. The sheepshead also hit either rig with the same aggressivness.Just fishing the shorelines, fish were from 11-14 ft,water temp was 76.8 degrees. So fishing has improved from last weekend or I just found the right spot, all the walleyes were in a very small area.

Well, the plan was to stay off the river for a couple weeks, but, with the overcast skies all day yesterday, I went back yesterday late afternoon and fished until just after dark. I figured with the lower light, the fish may be a bit more active. Not! Fished from WD to WD hitting my favorite haunts with little success. Always first broadcast casting cranks (say that five times fast) to see if there were any active fish up on top of the dams. Ended up hooking up with two eyes and had some short strikes. We could not get anything going own jigs and crawlers. I forgot to try some leaches, but maybe that would have gotten some interest. All activity was on cranks. Marked some, fish on some dams around the breaks in 8-13 fow, but couldn’t get them to take anything. Come on fall!
