Some time soon here I want to try rigging some eyes on the river. Love doing it on the lakes, but wondering how current affects the giving of line. Fish in my area I believe have an overabundance of food, and are quite reluctant in snatching the whole thing, even jigging I need to give a pause then set the hook to consistently hook em. Seems if you feed to much line the current would just create a huge bow, even as slow as it is right now. Is it similar to running spinners on a lake, where you just drop the rod tip back and wait for the slack to run out then set?

When pitching live bait on the wing dams I try to mimic the bite. If the fish hits it hard set the hook right away. If its just nipping at the bait drop the rod tip for maybe a second or 2. I think river fish hit more aggressively than lake fish. If a river fish does not get on that bait quickly it will get swept away in the current and dark water. Lake fish can hit a bait over and over again and still see it many feet away.

Just my thoughts on it but then again I dont rig on the river. Dragging jigs would be close to it or dork rigging on the dams.
