I have used leadcore with some success but I am heading to Pepin next weekend for 3 days

    looking to get some imput

How long of a leader do you use off of your leadcore and what type mono, braid ect

If you have two people in the boat what is the makeup of your poles. do you go with all leadcore or do you use long lines with mono at the same time?

Do you typically troll upsteam, down or in Pepin does it matter?

Any ideas on how long it will take the river to go back down toward a normal level?

    any help would be great…..

Here’s the link to that thread about lead core >>> Lead Core

I prefer using a braid for my leader material.

I don’t think you’ll notice any difference going upstream or downstream in Pepin as there is VERY little current in most locations out on the lake but you make notice a difference going into or with the waves if the lake kicks up. If it’s rough, going with the waves is a heck of a lot easier than struggling to get your speed right when pounding into the surf.

Lake back to normal? Weeks. But the fishing is so darned good now, enjoy the high water while it lasts!

A friend of mine just returned from a week of trolling leadcore on Pepin, and did very well. He was in the Lake City area. Best for him was all lead core, trolling 6-8′ down in 12-16′ of water near shore. #5 shad raps, and #5 jointed shad raps where his best producers, with the crawfish pattern being best. He used planer boards exclusively, and noted that he caught mostly walleyes while others trolling near him without planers where mainly catching saugers. With his partner, they boated over 150 legal fish in 4 1/2 days, with many over 22″, one 29″ piggy.
    Good luck!

Yep, he said 40-45′ of lead behind the boards, I am assuming that would put him in the 7′ range.
