Got down to the river about 4pm yesterday and fished until about 8:30. I hit my old spots as well as some new spots where I began to hook into bigger fish and only put a total of 2 walleyes and 1 nice 18″ sauger on the end of the rod. I could tell the river came up slightly an there was a little debris floating here and there. The flow changed just enough I figure to push those walleyes into different areas. My search into shallower and slower current as well as deeper breaks and seams did not pay off. I was able to mark some fish out near the tips of the dams and that is where all fish came from. Trolling produced nothing. Pitching 1/8oz, 3/16thoz, 5/16thoz and 1/4oz jigs with crawlers, leaches and plastic produced nothing. All fish came from casting cranks over the top and ends of dams. No big fish caught…could only find 17″ walleyes. Still, a great night to be out on the river.

Man…2 reports of very few fish on dams and in the river? I think they must be declining in numbers in the river…. Yeah….Lets start that rumor…

Dont know about that Chappy. August and Sept are typically slower walleye months on the river. Low flows and lots of food in the system can make for some tough bites. Now when those cold fronts come moving in in Oct the river will start to show how many hungry walleyes it has again.

I fished up river last night for a few hours. I was chasing smallies but the eyes were eating up my cranks. Head of the holes and anywhere water was running in we picked up a few eyes in each spot.

    How far up river?
Seems nowadays when I want walleyes I get cats and when I go cats I get nothing.

I have been shore fishing quite a bit now that the levels are down. The smallie bite has been good but the walleye bite has been few and far, at least from shore. I have mostly been throwing plastics and an occasional jig and crawler. I will have to try and lose a few cranks maybe!
