Nothing better then an unplanned Sunday morning trip to the cross with an older friend.
Kerry came by the camper this morning and asked if I wanted to go walleye fishing. My first response was “no” but after talking a bit more I found we could go out for a very short time (so I could get my nap in before this evenings trip).
I found out that Kerry and I belong to the same synod…The Mississippi River synod that believes that it’s better to be on the river thinking about God then in church thinking about fishing.
Short story long, we were on the river for about 1.5 hours or less. Two eater saugers, one eater eye and a short along with Kerry’s pike that thought it was a sturgeon and leaped out of the water twice.
Kerry went from “Oh this is a good one”…to “Darn I lost it” to “OK BK shut down the trolling motor and get the net…I’m going to be dancing soon!”
Total: 5 fish in 1.5 hours. I’m sure we would have boated more, but I thought that rapala thing was suppose to float.
All fish were released healthy but the pike. She swallowed that crank too far down and I don’t think she was going to make it.
Denver rig worked for us. Simply a three way with a rapala on the bottom and a 1/4 jig and a paddletail on the top lead. Today all fish came off the rap.
(Note: This rig works very well any place we can legally use two hooks or more.)
We were running at .8 mph to 1.1 mph in 6 to 12 fow. Water temp has dropped to 69 degrees, seven less then two days ago.
I’m not sure if there’s anything better then an spontaneous moments spent with a great guy.
Thanks Hawg!
