Any recent Pool 4 reports?

Hoping to get out tomorrow (Saturday). I suppose the mayfly hatch, and cold front, aren’t gonna help. Anyone heard if it’s been any better toward head of lake vs. the main lake around Lake City? Points south? I haven’t been out in a month, so trying to steer in the right area.

I was out after work on Wednesday teaching a couple of guys handlining. We didn’t find any active fish in the can-line but found a bunch of Saugers and a couple of nice 18″ Walleye around the Maiden Rock/Rush River area. We were pulling handlines with Rapala F7 original floaters. Blue/white caught both Walleyes and other natural colors caught lots of small Saugers, White Bass, and Sheepies. Bright colors did not catch anything. Thought this a little strange because normally you will pick up something regardless of the color.

While we were handlining we threw out a couple of Rods with 2 oz snap weights behind the handlines. The clown rap didn’t catch anything while the perch SR7 was a total sheephead magnet, including one that was over 10 lbs and a couple others in the 4-5lb range. When that big sheepie hit I thought it was a snag because we had just gone shallow and line started peeling off at a fairly steady rate. It’s always a treat to pick up a rod that you think is snagged only to find that you are in for a fight, even if it is a Sheepie.

A few mayflies were hatching while we were out but it did not seem to be a real big hatch.

Pepin is rolling tonight. Hopefully it settles down a little bit tomorrow. Thanks for the insights. Gonna start off with some blue and some natural colors and proceed from there.

Tried up around colville today. Multispecies day. Only 1 decent walleye. Left after we got tired of battling the wind. Whew. That was an interesting “July” outing.

Got out Sunday, too. This time out of Bay Point. Fished from there toward dam. Very slow for my buddy and me. Sheepie and bass. Guess I should have tried Denver rigs like another IDOer noted. About got swamped by the tuna boats a couple of times. That was fun. Also, there’s what looks like a DNR net set up up toward the lock along the rocks. Be careful if you’re in that area.

Are Denver rigs legal? Is that considered two lines which is fine on the Miss? I would guess illegal in Mn inland waters?

Considered 2 lines, correct. Unfortunate for us Pool-2 folks

    We are talking P4 right?

Work good on the St Croix border waters as well.

…and I do forget that in-land waters are still restricted to one hook.
