I know it should perform just like my favorite avids, but I worry that the small eyelets on the rage will freeze up constantly in colder temps. Anyone have any intel? Thanks!

I don’t have the answer to your question but I was just thinking that maybe some Rain-X or something like that on the eye’s would help shield off the water and prevent ice build up

Original post deleted… Guess I should actually answer the question.

We found a product sold specifically for automatic fishermans. It’s some sort of waterproofer/antifreeze you apply to your line that keeps it from freezing. Although it was messy, it worked pretty good at keeping the line and eyes from freezing.

I have the 610mxf rage and I like it better than my avid. To be honest I don’t even bother to bring it out in cold temps. Have had enough problems with the larger eyelets of the avid I can’t imagine the rage. Those eyelets are so tiny though without any type of outer ring to them maybe they are so small they don’t even hold water……hey it could happen.

Now that I think about it I remember an old post on here of a guy holding up a hog SMB with a blue bottle in the boat. He said it was windshield wiper fluid and give the reel a couple shots when needed, worth a shot.

I have not fished with a rod that the eyes do not freeze up. I love the rage. I got two last week. I am very happy with the rods.

My experience with micro or smaller guides is that they actually don’t build up as much as as trsditional guides and actually better in cold weather. At end if cast., a quick swish in the water and fire away.
Fresh hardline like 832 will repel better than 5 yr old worn out or frayed line and mono is much friendlier than either when freeze time comes.
