Was able to get in a last minute trip to pool 2 mid day Saturday. Lions levee ramp was open again. Water levels where back in the banks. Conditions looked great but then again they always do when sitting in the boat.

Didnt take long to find our 1st few fish. Picked up a couple of walleyes right as we where pulling out of the back channel. From there it was off to target shorelines and wingdams with good current breaks. Trolling shorelines kinda flopped for us but the wingdams where holding fish. Casting crank baits and H20 jigs with crawlers or leaches all produced. fish. Usually didnt take to long to find out if the fish where on a spot or not.

Hadnt had a chance to get out since last weekend so it didnt really mater if the fish where biting or not. It was going to be a good trip either way. It was good to find them biting. Nothing real big for walleyes. Plenty of mid sized fish.

Would of liked to seen water levels up a little more. Looks like they will continue to drop this week. That should only mean more fish coming out of the back waters and out to to the shorelines and wingdams.

Good luck to those that are getting out. Didnt look like to many out this weekend. Lions had one other trailer in the lot at noon on Saturday.

Just got a seasonal spot on P4 this year. Love fishing the Miss. Maybe we can meet up and share an afternoon or morning chasing ‘eyes on 2,3,or 4?

With any luck Im hoping to be out early tomorrow morning to. Anyone been out this week? Would imagine water levels must of come down a bit and the river cleared up some. Most likely be hunting the main channel for fish.

Ended up on Mille lacs Saturday morning but did make it back to pool 2 for Sunday afternoon. Water levels continue to drop but there is still plenty of flow on the river. Current seams ore moving out a little bit farther on the wingdams and those are the areas we focused on. Jigs with leaches or crawlers took all of our fish on Sunday. 1/4 and 5/16 ounce H2O jigs with leaches or crawlers took all of our fish.

You dont get the hard thunks when fishing live bait as compared to those walleyes getting plastics but it is still a fun way to fish. Many times those fish just pick up the jigs and hold them. It feels more like you are hung up on a rock. If the fish hit the bait hard Ill set the hook right away. If they are just slurping on it Ill pause for just a second or to to let them take it in.

Trolling cranks was a bust for us yesterday. Not even a bite. Would imagine this should turn around pretty quick to.

Mayflies where hatching around 494 and spring lake. With that big moon last night and light winds conditions looked to be shaping up for a bumper crop last night. The birds sure seemed happy about this.

We also found zebs on the river again yesterday. This time north of 494 on some garbage I pulled off a wingdams. Looks like the zebs have finely gotten a hold on pool 2. Wonder how much they are going to take over.

Sounds like you had a good day! For me, it’s a bit more difficult to see some of the current seams as the flow slows down. I did realize they were out a bit further as well. Having a little bit of fuzz, bubbles or leaves helps me find some of the more subtle seams that can hold fish. Awesome that you are getting them on jigs. You have that perfected. I haven’t been able to get one on a jig yet. Every single fish this spring and summer has come on a crank bait…mostly trolling, a few casting. I just haven’t got dialed in on the jigs yet…still riding the learning curve on the mid-summer jig tactic.

Heard on the news they shut the bridge lights of in Hastings last night due to the may flies. Any reports on how thick they got down there? Wasnt sure of what we seen on Sunday was the start of them or finish.

Time on the water will help you learn where those current seams set up at. As you said many are not easy to see. We had a nice breeze on Sunday that helped to show where some where setting up.

I like pitching jigs more than cranks baits so spend a lot more time fishing them. Just like that slow drift waiting for the bump on the other end of the line. Think you can cover a lot more of the wing dam with jigs than a person can with cranks to. Especially the deeper parts of the dam and out in front of it. During the summer months its not to often Ill leave a spot on a day without throwing a crank in there at least a few times. You never know which one they will want more that day until you try both.

Spent the afternoon on Sunday out there. Spent the first couple of hours trolling some different areas. Had 4 hits, but 3 came unglued. One beast got off just out of nets reach. The one we landed was the biggest of the day at 24″. Spent the rest of the afternoon pitching wingdams. Once we found the right ones with lower current, we could get 2-4 fish on a dam. But, we only found a couple that were producing. The dams with more current would give up some bass, but not eyes. Most of our fish came on cranks, the plastics were getting little attention. Most of our fish were around the 20″ mark. I also had some zebs on a piece of rope I snagged into.
