I’ve been looking around for a four-stroke kicker motor for my 16′ Smokercraft Magnum boat, but I don’t know a whole lot about them. I’m looking for advice on what would suit me best, a short shaft or a long shaft. I do most of my fishing on the Mississippi and would be using it for mainly trolling. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Unless you have a 15″ transom get the longer shaft. If you ever trade up to a larger boat it will most likely have a 20″ transom.

I had a situation where I did go with a short shaft kicker so I understand your question. Measure the height of the transom where the kicker will be mounted and that will tell you which one to purchase. I had a straight transom where the kicker mount was near 15″ and a short shaft made perfect sense. My current boat has a stepped transom and the long shaft is a must.
