I think most of the wingdams will have too much current going over them for a while yet. You may be able to find a spot on a few of them that will hold some fish but in general the current’s just too strong. I fished some Pool 3 wingdams last Thursday with my buddy and we did pretty decent but by Saturday our results really dropped off as the current increase from about 40,000 cfs to over 50,000 cfs going through Dam #3. It seem like that extra current was just enough to move them off.
Up until last night’s rain it looked like things might be shaping up but I heard some parts of the Minnesota river watershed had 9″ of rain. That’s all heading to the Mississippi.
Didn’t this happen last year too? Very low spring flows and then come late May and June we got the big surge. Hopefully it’s not too late to help the walleye fry but I suppose it probably is. Maybe it’ll help the bass fry have a good year class.
Good Luck,
Boone
