I put my walleye shirt on tonight….explained to a lady why I needed to leave the bass alone right now and struck out to find some walleye. My biggest walleye missed 5#s by an ounce and first place was 6 6. I had another one in the live well just in case the first one died. I was surprised how easy the walleye were to find. They were on a rock pile in heavy current. There are always smaller walleye and sauger there in high water, but the flow usually needs to be down a little lower. They must have been hiding down current,(behind), from the rocks and jumped up to grab the bait as it went over. Taylor Tackle Deep diving squarebill, (firetiger), strikes again.

The Clements family owns Taylor Tackle, Captain Hook’s and clements fishing float. Karen is the best person to talk to.

When you go to website look under bass baits. You will see a rattle trappie lure ( Clatter Shad) and the firetiger (Shad Minnow) the lure pictured is the shallow diver squarebill. I use both the shallow diver and the deep diver, but right now with the water depth the deep diver is working best for Walleye, and Bass. The camera makes all three of the lures looks shorter than they are. If you stretch them out about 15% you will see the true profile the colors are also a lot brighter than the picture.

Karen will be able to tell you where you might be able to find them near you. Be sure to ask specifically about the Shad Minnow… many locations carry their jigs, but these are a 2-3 year old addition to their line, so not everyone has them yet. Be advised that they were nearly out a few days ago. I just ordered 50 of shallow and deep in firetiger to replenish my stock.

It is no surprise to my guide customers that from now till November If I’m cranking I usually have either the shad minnow or the clatter shad on my line. Last year firetiger was by far the best.

Those bodies are available from Stamina Tackle, also. They come without split rings or hooks (you can buy those at Stamina as well), but they’re really inexpensive! Great for someone who wants to get a bunch of cranks and is willing to put in a little labor…

Tip: Get a split ring pliers to put those little split rings on or you’ll wish you had!

John 23 is right.. I think I have seen them about 50 places now…If it’s worth it to you to buy the parts the hooks etc, go for it.and assemble them yourself you can save .20 last time I checked Taylor Tackle sells them 4 for $10. They assemble them with a quality set of hooks. I don’t see very many colors there that I recognize???? But you could save some more if you bought 100.
