My old man is finally getting a chance to get on the water this weekend.. I was wondering if we could get some help he lives down in Des Moines and I’m from the Waterloo area and just wondering if someone could help us with some information on where to go up for either spot he does get out very much due to a disability so putting him on some fish would be awesome! Thanks for any information.

Can’t help you with the river, i have not been out yet. But i see you are from Ankeny have you fished Big Creek much. My daughter lives there and was wondering how the fishing was there. Thanks.

Guttenburg is 30 min closer and all the small sauger you want. Red Wing you have a better chance at a personal best and spam with info.

If you talk to the right guy, you can get spam&cheese, spam&eggs, cajun spam, spam and catfish, and/or spam and bullhead. or if you’re lucky- maybe the best pickled pike you have ever tasted. . Hey BK

    Bad info in this thread.

Although they are catching some piggies, no SPAM this weekend.

It’s smoked sturgeon on the menu until supplies run out. Then we’ll be serving regular helpings of BS.

On Friday the fishing was so bad for us at red wing that we canceled our Saturday hotel rooms and went to Gutenberg. It wasn’t that much better, but we did get a few decent fish and apparently there was a 10+ pounder caught that morning at the dam. A lot can change on the river though in a few days so both places could be completely different by now.

Changing conditions and sometimes tactics help…or hurt.

    From Sunday…

It’s like the old river saying goes, there’s always someone catching fish on the river.

…and certainly not meaning any disrespect to any of the anglers that struggled over the weekend.

    Erick Anderson from Sunday morning.

…and yes, had I been out there I would have been saying this is a dead sea. But there are people catching fish.

Unfortunately I ended up screwing up my back so bad leveling out my camper, I doubt I’ll be in a boat before the bite is long gone.

To anyone that happens to be thinking I’m picking on CPR, I’m not.

It bothers me that folks end up driving home when there are fish below them and biting. That’s no fun!

I don’t guide for walleyes but seriously, when the bite gets tough for your group or boat, hire a guide! Split up the cost and learn a new technique on how to catch those pesky critters when your methods have failed.

Beats the snot out of going home!

Once you have the methods down it’s just a matter of time before you’re kicking yourself in the butt wishing you would have done this years ago. If I had only known this when my dad was alive, he would have been kicking himself it the butt!
