Well, mulling the weather radar trends and forecasts, I was faced with one of those “go-no-go” decisions at 4 this morning.
Heavy rain being forecast tomorrow and more rain probably on Monday did not bode well, so I went ahead and woke up my son JoJo at 4:30 and we headed towards DeSoto/Lansing in a cold driving rain. We got to our destination on pool 9 at about 7:15, and were greeted with thunder and lighting.
So, instead of risking it, we stayed in the truck most of the morning and told each other silly jokes (my son is 5-he still finds my jokes funny, bless him!), shared some great father and son time listening to the oldies on AM 980, and enjoyed a healthy breakfast of peanut butter cookies, string cheese, and beef sticks.
By 11, the rain had mostly let up, so we decided it was only fair to get the bottom of the boat wet too. As my wife had to play organ at tonight’s Mass, we were only left with an hour to fish before having to pack her up and head home. We worked some deep cuts in the sloughs and had some phenomenal takes; losing one fish that looked pretty nice. We did manage catch one psychotic little smallie that just hammered the fat rap.
So, we’re gonna mostly write this one off today and plan to come back, maybe spending a night or two camping. Speaking of which, there were quite a few families bravin’ it at the campground. I felt so bad for all those kids stuck inside their soggy tents, hopefully someone brought along some playing cards and cross word puzzles.
It is Memorial Day weekend; take some time out to remember those loved ones who gave their life for our freedoms and all of our loved ones who have passed on. Remember to thank our veterans.
