Finally made it out yesterday afternoon. We got down there shortly after the rain stopped from what we could tell. First of all I was a little surprised that there was not more traffic, I suppose the weather had something to do with that. We noticed on the way down that all of the creeks were running fast and muddy. Lots of woody debris in the water, mostly (but not all) pretty small stuff.
Water temps varied from 38.9 to about 40.3 in the places we covered which was basically the dam to the head of the lake. I was a little surprised by how few fish we marked. We tried some deeper water and only marked fish up by the dam and down by the Y. They had the two western most rollers open on the dam.
As for the fishing well, I was beginning to think this post was going to be added to the “humble pie” thread but things turned around towards dusk. We caught 4 walleyes; one just under 15″, one just under 23″ and two for the box in the 17″-19″ range. We also caught half a dozen saugers, three of which were just big enough to be added to the fish fry. Did not see a lot of fish caught overall. The walleyes came in less than 7′ of water. Wondering if the rising/dirty water had the walleyes up shallow as two of ours came in less than 3′ of water. Sour apple head with a purple/chart moxie caught 3 of the 4 walleyes.
Getting out has got me even more revved up to go again. Friday afternoon will be the first opportunity and the extended forecast looks promising so far. Good luck out there and be safe!
