Boat ramps is the case. Let’s start on P3 and work down….

P3 Hastings MN, brand new ramp, beautiful cement slab, plenty of parking, nice asphalt lot, price $0.00

P3 Prescott WI, Jaques landing, Nice ramp and parking, cost some wierd number like $8.50 for WI residents, $17.28 for MN residents. Who the hell has seventeen dollars and twenty eight cents on their person???

P3 Red Wing MN, free gravel ramp on North Lake and Free cement ramp on south end of Sturgeon Lake.

P3 Diamond Bluff WI, pay ramp, where if you don’t live in town you must park a block away from the launch.

P4 MN, free first class ramps @ baypoint park, Colvill Park, Lake City, Wabasha, and Wilcox.

P4 WI, dilapidated, use at your own risk ramp, wisconsin channel near hager city. A couple crappy, uber shallow ramps on Pepin, Nice ramp in Alma Marina which is now a pay ramp. Ramp in Buffalo slough which is mostly worthless.

and on and on and on….

For those who haven’t picked up the theme of this post, Minnesota has nice ramps free to use by the public, while Wisconsin has ramps which are either in terrible condition or cost $$$ to use, or many times both

P4 WI has Everts that are open year round and come with advice on the current bite. $7

Now if only MN would put in some ramps on the Croix so I could find a parking spot in Hudson that doesn’t have Mn plates already in it life would be good.

About the only thing I see likely to change in this is the free ramps in MN becoming pay ramps. It seems to me like they have flown under the radar for some time now.

In order to qualify for a Wisconsin DNR waterways access grant you have to establish launch fees to show you can maintain them…however WI does not require canoe registration, or kayak, or portable fish shacks, or boat trailers under certain GW…

That is a good point, I do prefer the way the MN gets it’s dollars by charging residents for their trailers and such while everyone can use their ramps for free. Thanks MN.
