Pool 5 report

After spending a few days in the Twin Cities watching high school basketball I needed to detox and do some fishing on Sunday.

After chatting with some new friends at the bait shop for a while, it was great to talk with you guys Jeremy and “Grizz”, my buddy John and I hit pool 5 for a few hours.

We picked up a few decent male walleye dragging plastics and caught a good mix of walleye and saugers vertical jigging the main channel. I have to admit I did buy some minnows and even tried them a bit but actually could not get a fish to take them all the way in and get hooked. Went back to plastics (ringworms, paddletails, and pulse-R’s) and never dipped into the bait pail again.

Nothing huge but enough keepers to stink up the fryer for a good fish fry last night. Kept 4 walleyes and 6 saugers between us but caught 30-40 total in about 5 hours on the water.

The ramp was in great shape but I hope the snow in the parking lot melts soon to open up some more room.

Good luck and be safe out there

I know a guy that has been out every day for 5+ hours in Alma and hasn’t done any good since last Friday. He has been dragging and vertical jigging from the damn well past the deep hole every day. Consider your trip a success.
